The Global Cleantech 100 Ones to Watch list recognizes “up-and-coming companies that are catching the eye of leading investors and corporates in the market.”
The watch list was part of the Global Cleantech 100 program announced by the Cleantech Group and included nominations from 12,300 distinct companies from 61 countries. The companies were weighted and scored to create a short list of 312 companies, with nominees reviewed by 86 members of Cleantech Group’s Expert Panel. The Ones to Watch list is created from the top 250 of the shortlist. To qualify for either list, companies must be independent, for-profit cleantech companies that are not listed on any major stock exchange.
“We’re excited to be included on this list of up-and-coming companies making a difference in a variety of industries within the Cleantech sector,” said Hortau Co-Founder and CEO Jocelyn Boudreau. “We have employees working hand-in-hand with growers to improve precision ag across the globe, and it’s exciting to see how far we’ve taken our platform and how growers are benefiting from and making smart decisions based on the most accurate, real-time soil tension data in the field.”
Hortau’s crop stress management platform reports to growers how crops are faring in real time – before stressors such as drought or lack of aeration can have a negative impact on a crop. This proprietary, plant-centric approach measures crop stress using soil tension, ensuring optimal crop growth, while reducing water and energy consumption, as well as leaching of nutrients.
Hortau also recently won the 2017 North American Smart Irrigation New Product Innovation Award, was a finalist for the 2017 CognitionX Best AI Product in Agriculture award, and was named to the THRIVE AgTech Top 50 Growth companies list.

“The Global Cleantech 100 program is our annual in-depth research exercise to identify the innovation companies leading players in the market are most excited by right now,” Cleantech Group CEO Richard Youngman said. “By the nature of the list, the Ones to Watch truly represent the next cadre of exciting disruptive companies.”
