Hortau Showcasing In-Field Demo at Husker Harvest Days

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (Sept. 8, 2016) – Hortau, a provider of precision irrigation management systems and services for agriculture since 2002, will be hosting an in-field demonstration of its precision irrigation management system at Husker Harvest Days on Sept. 13-15 in Grand Island, Neb.

Hortau will be showcasing its smart irrigation management station in the rows of corn located just inside the main entrance to Husker Harvest Days at the Northeast Quadrant, Annex 20 (see map).

Hortau’s team of High Plains irrigation consultants will be on hand to discuss how the platform can help growers reduce water use and pumping costs due to the use of real-time soil moisture measurement.

Hortau recently expanded its presence in the High Plains, and now has grower support representatives covering Wyoming, Nebraska, Colorado and Kansas.

Hortau’s wireless, solar-powered field stations and simplified mobile software report to growers how crops are faring in real time – before unseen stresses such as lack of aeration or soil moisture can have a negative impact on a crop.

“With the season wrapping up, now’s a great time to look back on growers’ irrigation management programs for this past year and look ahead to what we can do to better optimize production in 2017,” said Doug Larson, who heads Hortau’s High Plains operations. “Hortau also offers an upgraded, full-service platform for growers in our region, so we not only install and maintain the equipment but train growers and field staff on how to use the software and get the most out of our full suite of services.

“With commodity prices where they are, it has never been more important for producers to make the very most of each and every input,” Larson added, “from water and energy, to fertilizer and fuel, Hortau is helping farmers throughout the region maximize their ROI.”

At the show, Hortau will discuss the benefits and features of its new ST Irrigation Management Stations, which allow for up to eight sensor inputs per station. Those sensors can record soil tension readings at multiple depths, weather data, rainfall, soil temperature, as well as countless other key measurements. The system also allows for real-time alerts (via phone call, text message or email) for frost and other critical field data points.

Stop by the booth to learn about all of Hortau’s services, including flow meter monitoring systems, which bring flow meters online and allow for real-time views of water usage — a must for producers affected by water allocations.
